I don't do many reviews but I'd be doing others a disservice if I didn't document my experience with CIS for others to see. We bought a second home/investment property and used CIS Home Loans as our lending institution; the initial process was smooth without any issues. Prior to the first mortgage payments' due date, I set up autopay for both loans. Unfortunately, an IT shortcoming (freely admitted by CIS) prevented the payment from being debited on the actual due date (really odd, but I played along). I was asked to change the payment date on the autopay, which I did, but the payments were still not debited the following month. We tried on a third consecutive month, but their system still did not debit properly and I had to make manual payments over the phone. Not wishing to have to do this month after month, I decided (and the customer service agent with CIS I was working with agreed) that I'd go another route and set up bill pay through my credit union, abandoning the autopay for CIS that obviously doesn't function correctly. Finally, on that third month, their system arbitrarily decided to pull both payments, so I effectively doubled up both payments for the month (I had set up bill pay just prior). I immediately contacted CIS customer service requesting they reverse the payment, the girl pledged to push the request up the chain, but CIS ultimately denied the request, as they determined the issue "was not one caused by CIS Home Loans". What? It was CIS' non-functioning autopay (with an admitted known glitch that an employee disclosed!) that got us into the mess! My further attempts to come to an amicable solution were unsuccessful, as CIS made it clear they had no desire to work with me on making two extra mortgage payments in a month's time. So I'd beware of the "we're a small town bank looking out for our small town folks" vibe they try to sell...what I experienced was anything but. Hope this helps someone out there.

Repeatedly lost my payments. Like accounts receivable has ONE job. Yet everytime I mail in a money order instead of paying for the privilege of making online payments that cost another 15 dollars to make, they lose the payment and require me to prove it with a receipt which since I cannot trust this company is a must do. They mail out the remittance coupon books late as possible so more often than not I'm mailing in payments without it, of course they apply the whole payment to interest so I have to write a letter everytime as well. Do your job!

DO NOT GO HERE!
We started the home buying process through CIS. We were told we could do our land loan, loan for dirt work, and home loan all in one. So, with this sounding easier than 3 separate loans, we decided to use CIS. After 5 months of an email on Friday saying they needed a certain document and immediate response from us, then not hearing back except through email that something else was needed that next Friday, rarely being able to get in touch with anyone by phone, we were told they could not do the land on the loan. So, we went to First National Bank for a personal loan. Within a week we had the loan and within the next fees weeks the land was our’s. Easiest process ever! Would have started there if we would have known we were going to have to wait 5 months! Then around Christmas, CIS laid off many workers. We could not get anyone to contact us back about anything, and had no clue as to who was actually now handling our loan! After three more months of waiting around for nothing to happen, not even dirt work, we left and went somewhere else. Within a month we had dirt work done and loan for the house finished! What could have taken us 2 months in paperwork with two other banks, took over 8 months with CIS to get NOTHING done! Waste of time!

I have had my auto and homeowners insurance through CIS Insurance Agency for several years now. The employees are always willing to answer any questions I may have and do not mind to shop rates for me when my premiums rise. The customer service CIS Insurance Agency offers is like no other!

Great experience with CIS! They worked with us to get us what we needed. However, they did move our mortgage to another company in which I was not happy about at all. Either way, they did help us initially but we may would’ve reconsidered things if we would’ve known they would move/sale the mortgage to another company.
