Horrible Service. The person I was speaking to was Clayton. He’s super nice and helped me get started. I go into this Credit Union to finance a car that I really liked. In my price range, loaded with options and so on and so forth. The dealership had told me to go through this location to be able to finance this vehicle since they offered a first time buyer program. First day went smooth. Until now, was ridiculous. The service is absolutely terrible. I’ve wasted most of my time trying to make this purchase happen. I was told that I would need a proof of income (paystub). I sent the image to a individual, and didn’t reply back until later that day. Said that was perfect and sent my application to the underwriters. I waited until the next day and did not receive any response until I reached out again after my lunch break and asked how long does the process take. I received a response 10 minutes later saying that I needed a co-signer. Which I completely understand since I’m 19 and have no credit due to strict parents. I provided the information with my co-signer’s information as well at 6:13PM. After closing hours. Then got a response at 10:16AM this morning. It stated: I apparently needed a resident at my house because it was “preferred”. I have told them 3 times now, I can not go through a family member for various reasons. So I used one of my closest friends who has a credit score. Then asked if my friend lived with me. I said no he does not at 10:38AM this morning. Did not get a response around 4:48PM saying that they’d contact him “as soon as possible”. I’ll be “notified” with updates. Seriously? I had to wait that long? No apology for the late response at all, my co-signer has been waiting for a call back, and no effort at all to make this happen for me. Not only that BUT, I’ve had to call the dealership multiple times updating them about my situation to make this purchase and if i’ll be able to. It’s been 3 days now and still no progress. If I have to wait this long to have me being declined in the end I will be very disappointed because not only have I wasted my time with this credit union, I will not make a purchase on this vehicle. So far my experience with this location has been unacceptable. If things change, I will happily take my review down or reword it once I have been accepted.

Took my kid here to get a checking account. Even though they are only 14, the bank issued an account. The staff was very friendly and explained the process of having a checking account really well. There was coffee in the lobby..yay.

Horrible customer service at the Muskegon branch. So bad in fact, I am working on closing out all my accounts with LMCU, and I'm driving an extra 10 miles to the Fruitport branch to conduct the rest of my business, which unfortunately has provided excellent customer service every time I've been there. The problem starts with management, and there is a clear difference in the operations of the two different locations.

When I was buying a hours back in June I used great lakes credit union. They are so friendly and helpful. I could call anytime and they would answer. They knew how to answer all my questions. I would highly recommend them anytime.

Most of the negative reviews are entitled boomers trying to pin LMCU by being review bullies. Anytime I need something they do they best they can and usually pretty quick. Sometimes they are busy.... no you can't cut in line even if "it is really quick." Just be realistic think to yourself "if I worked here how would i want to be treated" and stop pretending you have a better understanding of how a bank should operate with your 30 years of shop experience...you 1 star people just sound like entitled yuppies.

23-Aug-23 updated: Started out with some hiccups and misunderstandings. Advertised number gets you to a call center in GR not your local bank. I've been working with the Branch Manager Jennifer and the experience is improving. Was informed of a new Money Market (?) account without all the usage requirements of the Max Checking to earn the interest.
