After 15 years living in the state of NC I have found Nantahala Bank and want everyone to know what a fantastic local bank they are. For the very first step in their doors, I was greeting with kindness and efficiency. Since then, every single issue I have brought to them has been handled exactly the same, every transaction handled promptly, professionally and with exceptional courtesy. Used their ATM, forgot my card, called at opening time the next business day and they said they were still going to destroy my card because it wasn’t from their bank. “Blah blah blah we have to.”
Well, I forgot it at the BB&T ATM a few years ago and THEY returned it. They destroyed something that belonged to me without my permission with me calling to tell them I knew I left it and I wanted it back. Now I have to reset all my auto drafts.
So don’t use their ATM. They won’t return your card and they’ll whine about it not being “their” policy. Should be posted on the ATM that if you make a mistake they’ll destroy your card.

Horrible customer service by management. Moved all of our families 5 accounts. Had several meetings and they did nothing to fix the problem they created.

Stop by to open a checking account and while the person explaining the options was very polite and shared details, I asked for- very limited ways to open the checking account that were convenient to me. They actually refused an electronic transfer of funds from a bank in another state which is same as a cashier's check. I will not be banking here nor would I recommend them. It makes me sad because they do not seem to work with the customer' needs - certainly glad I discovered this prior to opening an account.

If I could give this bank NEGATIVE stars I would! This bank id so behind in time, its like going bank 40 years.
-Cannot deposit cash unless you go inside.
-If you need a new card/dispute a transaction you speak to someone in the PHILIPPINES (but it's a small tow, community bank, haha).
-Refuses to reverse any over draft fees CAUSED by THEM
-Was told to go back to Miami by JULIA- a TELLER because she said it would take 3-4 weeks to get a new card in the mail.
-Send an unbelievable amount of mail
- Manager who helped me was covered in tattoos, wearing jeans with her phone out and looked like she stepped out of a tattoo parlor (but was very nice).
-My favorite! JULIA, who claimed to be the MANAGER, funny- same person, hung up on me 4 times when I tried to close my checking account. Didn't bother trying to verify my address to send me a check with my current balance. Said "you need to learn how to manage your money better" when I asked about getting over draft charges caused by THEM which came to approximately $150. She was so rude, and didn't want to help. When she asked me why I wanted to close my account, and I said all of the above, she said "well, we are not like other banks and maybe you should go back to banking in Florida".
-Tried to get a mortgage for a home a few years ago for $400,000 and the wanted too much information. We are talking investment paperwork- but not a header or summary. ALL PAGES of EVERY INVESTMENT! Not to mention more paperwork that is absolutely unacceptable so I paid for that house in CASH and they lost that.
THIS BANK IS A JOKE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I recently opened a business checking account here and found out today I can't do external transfers. This is a business account and I can't do external transfers?! No option for using a 3rd party like Zelle either. Furthermore, you can't do over $500 ATM withdrawal. Some banks allow $1k - 3k for in-house ATM withdrawals. I run a business and can't believe this in the 21st century. Also, their app doesn't even display your account or routing numbers. I'll be closing my account and looking for a bank where I don't have 3 steps (teller, money order, deposit) to transfer funds.
