Update: I added an additional star to my previous review. The president of the bank responded to my review and asked that I give him a call. He explained that the forms I signed did give them permission to run a credit check. The bank employee should have explained that when I was signing but they did not. I would agree it is partly my fault for signing without reading thoroughly.
Original review: I opened a checking account with Elkhorn Valley Bank in December 2021. I've mostly had a great experience with them since opening my account. The people inside the bank have been friendly and helpful.
However, when I opened the account, they did a hard pull on my credit. I was not told that opening an account would cause a hard pull. I have never had another bank perform a credit check when I've opened an account, and I didn't give permission for it. A hard pull stays on my credit report for 2 years and negatively impacts my credit score.
If you are considering banking with Elkhorn Valley, and are trying to maintain or improve your credit score, you might want to consider banking somewhere else.

The employees at the new bank are great. The drive up at the new location in Norfolk is just a glorified ATM. You don't see a real person for help. If your in a car. Forget being able to reach the screen or put your card in the slot. You will need to get out of your car to use. Just not good. I miss the personal contact with a human. Want specific change for large bills or bank book updated. Forget it.
The new bank lobby needs some serous help. It is like walking into a dungeon. It was nice to see and say hi to employees other than tellers at the old branch, no more. The place has lost its small town feel. If the goal was to be like a bid city bank with no personality. The goal was met.

The workers were very nice and the building is just amazing for Norfolk. However, the “drive-through” is very poor. It is only a “teller on demand” (TOD) which is pretty much just an ATM. It would make more sense to have a true drive through at one of the best looking banks in town. It would add a lot more convenience.

I met with Mikaela Boyle for a transaction and her customer service was outstanding!! Another associate, Kent VanKampen, was so kind to offer me a refreshing soda while I conducted my business!!! Wonderful people and a pleasure to do business here!!!
