I recently applied for an FHA loan through Sunmark bank. Every time I got a call from my loan officer, he would tell me to address any comments the underwriter had about my file, and I would take care of the request within the same day, every time. Even when they told me I had to either refinance my car loan or sell it before they would approve the loan, I did. Basically, coercion to get the loan, but ok fine. I'll do what I must to get my home. However, days after I sold my car and no longer had a car loan, they rejected the loan citing that I'm trying to get an investment property. Because they couldn't reject me based on my finances since I am a well-qualified buyer with a large down payment, 795 credit score, no consumer debt and now no car payment, they tried to use any reason to not approve my loan. Apparently moving from my current residence (has no AC, dishwasher, deck) into a bigger house that's completely renovated, with state-of-the-art appliances and a new HVAC system is not reason enough for a BLACK person to want to move, but instead try to commit mortgage fraud? Ever heard of redlining Sunmark? I wonder how many loans they fill or choose not to in certain neighborhoods? I would NEVER suggest any BIPOC and other minorities to bank here or apply for a loan. You'd be much better off working with the people at SEFCU.

I bought a new car last year I was helped by Brittany king she was amazing throughout the whole process. At first my credit or income was not as great because of the pandemic having to take time off from work but we revisited the loan, I sent Brittany about 3 different cars because I wanted to make sure I had the right one. Finally we were approved now a year later car is 100% paid off! Thank you I am now looking for a business loan so I am highly considering this bank since my experience the first time was so amazing! Samantha Fuller was excellent! I called up the Latham office from the number found online. When I tell you the phone didn’t even ring twice, Sam snatched that phone up and was ready to make my day. She handled everything I needed her too and more. Excellent service.

I had a great experience with Sunmark recently for the refinancing of my home. They were quick to respond to any questions that I had, the entire process went very smoothly. Call out to Paige A and Amanda for all of their help throughout the process. The closing went just as smooth, only took 20 minutes. Thanks to Laura for that!

***UPDATE TO EARLIER REVIEW***
After what I would classify as my worst customer service experience ever, I left a concerning review with 1 star. I then thought it appropriate to call customer service back to share my story with hopes of finding some comfort and support from another individual. Basically, I was hoping for Sunmark to make amends.
Boy was I wrong, they doubled down. After a bill processing error on their part, which we now have evidence of, they were dismissive of my grievance with Sunmark and my earlier experience.
Their solution, "I will pass this along to my Manager". Apparently, it's a massive inconvenience for me to even speak with said Manager. On top of that, still no apology.
Accidents happen, I get it. Misplacing $1,300 and threatening credit bureau involvement - even that I can move past. Repetitive denial of accountability and brushing my concerns off, that's where I draw the line.
Shame on you Sunmark.
I will continue to update these posts (good or bad) as Sunmark either responds or continues to brush me off. We will see if that "Manager" sees my incident worthy of a personal discussion.

Kevin Fitzgerald was an absolute pleasure to deal with through the whole loan process. I recommend contacting him for any loan assistant you might need. He was VERY responsive at all times and even went over things with me after hours and on the weekend while home playing with his kid. I can’t say enough about Kevin and it was a true pleasure working with someone like you. Customer service rarely comes like this anymore. Thank you again Kevin Fitzgerald!
